The Performance and Improvement Management team is pleased to release the new MSIS Onboarding process.  This project is a result of the MSIS strategic objectives to establish strong onboarding and baseline training, and to measure the effectiveness and adherence to the onboarding process.  MSIS believes that in order to set our staff up for success, it is critical for us to be sure they are well-onboarded and informed of all that is available to them at the start of their career at MSIS.

Why is Onboarding so Important?
A quality onboarding program can significantly improve the performance, fit and readiness of every employee who takes on a new role in the organization. As a result, onboarding helps build, sustain, and perpetuate high-performing teams and leads to sustained, organization-wide competitive advantage.

Benefits of onboarding programs include the following:
  • Increase employee engagement
  • Integrate new employee into the culture, thereby enhancing that culture
  • Improve current employee morale
  • Prevent future spending on re-recruiting and re-training
  • Reduce new hire turnover
  • Reduce time-to-productivity

Research suggests that effective onboarding programs can improve an organization’s bottom-line as follows:
  • Improve Employee Performance—by up to 11.3%.
  • Reduce New Hire Turnover—from 70% to 16%.
  • Heighten Employee Engagement—increase an employee’s discretionary effort in excess of 20%.

Key Changes to the MSIS Onboarding Process:
  • All new employee onboarding must be tracked through the Zendesk ticketing system.
  • Managers are expected to provide a status update to the ticket to indicate what progress is being made at least weekly.
  • At the end of the fourth week, the new employee will complete an onboarding feedback survey to share their input as to how they felt the process went.
  • The manager will attach the completed onboarding list to the ticket.
  • Administrative support will be provided for scheduling standard training (Lean, ITIL, MSIS 101, UMHS 101, Influencer, etc)
  • MLearning courses set up for internal training (MSIS 101, UMHS 101, Customer Experience training, & MSIS Incident Response)

We will begin offering the internal training programs via MLearning in July and quarterly thereafter.  If you do not want to wait until July, the next MSIS 101 and UMHS 101 sessions will be held on May 27 (Wednesday) from 1-2:30pm and 2:30-4pm respectively in NCRC Building 16, room B003E.
